Focus On Solutions, Not Problems
Life is such that you will encounter problems. Whether in business or relationships, challenges are inevitable. The difference between an individual who manages well and someone who doesn’t lies in their area of focus.
If you pour mental energy into problems, their severity increases. Your emotional wellness decreases and you’re less able to cope with stress. Concentrate on finding solutions, though, and you’ll feel empowered. You’ll also discover ways to prosper. Good mental health blossoms when you seek ways out of your difficulties rather than worrying about them.
Why worrying about problems sets you back
It’s natural to worry about problems a little. When you face challenges, you are bound to feel insecure if you don’t know the answers. Remaining stressed, however, can blind you from recognizing ways out of your situation. Chronic anxiety weakens immunity, making people susceptible to illness. Worrying also becomes a pattern of behavior, and rerouting your thoughts can be difficult. As pathways are forged along which worries travel, your mind continues to move in the same old direction. Soon, thinking of how to alter matters is tough.
Channel your thoughts toward solutions
You might face financial difficulties, problems with your boss, or another kind of challenge. All circumstances that test your peace of mind have solutions. There are answers to your difficulties, even if they involve sitting tight until the situation improves. However, unless you channel your thoughts toward change, you will worry.

Going over problems might be a habit, but, you can alter the way you think. When you catch yourself mulling over difficulties, stop. Remember you want to change the situation rather than add weight to problems. The first step is to be responsible for how you deal with what’s happening. Until you do so, you are powerless to change. Those who believe circumstances and others are in charge of their welfare are stuck. Step into the driver’s seat and take charge of your future.
Consider what a positive outcome would look like and how you would prefer to feel. Create a goal, narrowing down precisely what you wish to happen. For instance “I want a career that creates meaning in my life and uses my unique skills” is a good start. Now examine your goal further, becoming more specific. In the example given, you would identify what you think of as meaningful, and what your skill set comprises of that’s unusual.
Next, picture yourself in the future, having achieved your aim. Step into the picture, using your senses to experience how success feels. Doing so will increase your motivation and confidence. Ask the successful version of you in the picture how your goal was accomplished. What changes did you make to find a solution? You’ll be surprised about how being in a positive frame of mind helps you come up with ideas to try. Even if you don’t immediately find answers, your brain will have begun seeking a positive result. How to improve circumstances will occur to you later.
You can’t avoid problems, but you can develop a solution-orientated mindset. Aim to seek answers to the challenges you face rather than worrying. If you become anxious, realize you only feel powerless because you have stopped seeking a way out of your dilemma. Shift your focus to a goal and visualize what you want to occur.
