Return Of Rebecca: Vegan IPL Pro Stuns On Stage (& Off) In AZ!
Interview By Ben | Michael Brooks Photography
“IT’S DEFINITELY SURREAL SEEING YOURSELF IN A PHOTO, LET ALONE ON THE COVER OF A MAGAZINE.”
Feature images were captured by renowned photographer, Michael Brooks, during the weekend of the 2018 3rd Annual IPL Arizona Championship and Tawnya Cline Natural Bikini Magazine Classic on May 27th in Mesa, Arizona.
At that contest event Rebecca Unruh made her IPL Pro Debut in Professional Bikini (placing 2nd). She also competed in Amateur Novice Evening Gown where she placed 1st.
This is Rebecca’s 2nd Vigorous Magazine cover. Her first was the Fall 2017 issue following the 2017 IPL Arizona Championship where Rebecca won her IPL Bikini Pro Card.
BEN YOSEF: Hi, Rebecca! There are so many congratulations in order for you right now! [laughs] Congrats on landing your second VIGOROUS cover! Congrats on making your Pro Bikini Debut at the Arizona Championship and earning a very respectable 2nd place!
Congrats on winning Novice Evening Gown at that show! How are you feeling about all that has gone down?
REBECCA UNRUH: Thank you! I feel really good about it now, but going into it I definitely didn’t feel ready. It’s a great feeling proving yourself wrong.
BEN: I’m sure! I remember talking with you at check-in the night before and you were like, “yeah, but I’m not ready.” Then you come into the show looking amazing. What was it like going up against the other Bikini Pros? And, when did you realize that you were in fact ready…and looking like one of the best up there?
REBECCAH: [LAUGHS] I guess it’s hard to truly feel it until you’re on stage. At that point, you have to be. I had a good time competing against the other Pros debuting and ones that have done this many times before. It was a good lineup and I felt happy with my results.
“I’M NOT SURE WHAT’S NEXT FOR ME. I’M
JUST GOING WITH THE FLOW.”
BEN: Awesome! You also shot again with Michael Brooks the weekend of the show. Such amazing images once again from you two. Of course the first round was last year, which landed you on the cover of the Fall 2017 issue of Vigorous. What is it like shooting with Michael, and what is it like landing cover number two?
REBECCA: He’s fun to shoot with. We just go with the flow. Sometimes it comes out amazing and sometimes it doesn’t work. It’s definitely surreal seeing yourself in a photo, let alone on the cover of a magazine (twice). It’s such a cool thing to have been able to do.
BEN: So, you obviously have a really great, unique look. And are clearly very photogenic… which is leading to you getting all this spotlight. I can’t tell you how many girls reach out to us wanting to be featured, let alone actually getting a cover. Now you are on your second cover. Do you feel that this is all just coming naturally to you, or are you doing things to make your look “pop” and stand out? And, what advice would you give to other girls/models who are looking for some shine?
REBECCA: [laughs] Thank you! I don’t do anything special. I keep my look as natural as possible and only wear makeup on stage. My advice would be to be yourself, let your natural beauty shine and don’t try to copy what other people are doing. Always be true to you.
BEN: So, you are a vegan athlete… What is your diet like? And what are some of the advantages with it when it comes to your health, fitness, physique and competing? Are there any disadvantages?
REBECCA: My diet is basically the opposite of most competitors. I eat a lot of carbs. About 70% of my diet is carbs. I eat a lot of produce, rice, and oats and I don’t change that during prep. Being able to eat until I’m full and not count calories is a huge plus. In my opinion, there are no disadvantages because I’m not dieting or cutting.
BEN: Well, it seems to be working! You are such an awesome competitor and cover girl. Thank you for being a part of the IPL. And, thank you for gracing the cover of Vigorous once again! It’s definitely one of my favorites. What’s next for you?
REBECCA: Of course, thank you! I’m not sure what’s next for me. I’m just going with the flow.
